How does LaserFast™ hair removal differ from other laser hair removal treatments?

LaserFast™ Hair Removal uses the most advanced technology including the Candela GentleLASE® laser which is a specific type of laser that shortens your treatment time because instead of covering the standard 9mm area it covers an 18mm area. It also has a special patented cooling device that helps alleviate any skin irritation and keeps you comfortable during the procedure. LaserFast™ Hair Removal allows for the most effective laser hair removal treatment and at the same time ensures the safety of the patient. Syracuse Laser Spa is the only laser provider authorized to preform LaserFast™ Hair Removal in the Syracuse Area.

Who are the best candidates for laser hair removal;
how does the laser work?

When the FDA first approved Laser Hair Removal in the 1990’s it could only be used on candidates with light skin. The candidate also had to have dark skin. This is because there was only one type of laser in existence at the time. Now many new lasers have been developed making it so almost anyone can have Laser Hair Removal.

The lasers work by heating on the shaft of the hair until it is damaged making it no longer able to produce new hairs. It does take a few visits to treat all the follicles. This is because each hair is at a different level of development. Typically it takes between two and eight visits to complete the treatment. This all depends on many factors including the area treated and the thickness of the hair.

How does laser hair removal differ from electrolysis
and is it permanent?

There are only two ways to get rid of unwanted hair permanently and that is with either electrolysis or Laser Hair Removal. Although these methods have a similar end result they have many differences.

Electrolysis uses electricity to burn the hair follicle while Laser Hair Removal uses a gentle beam of light. This electricity is delivered to the body via a needle, which is inserted over and over into each and every hair follicle.

Secondly, with Laser Hair Removal several hair follicles are treated with one laser blast. With electrolysis each and every hair follicle must be individually treated. This means that for Laser Hair Removal it takes between two and eight months to finish the treatment with electrolysis the process is complete in eighteen months to four years.

Side effects are also much more noticeable with electrolysis. Clients often report welts, burns, severe skin irritation, and although rare electric shock. With Laser Hair Removal it is very rare to have any side effects. When side effects are present it is usually a slight skin irritation that can be alleviated by applying a cold pack to the affected area.

What preparation is needed before laser treatment?

In order to help prepare your body for your upcoming Laser Hair Removal session here are some things you should know. When going out into the sun for two weeks before or after your session you need to wear a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. This will protect your skin from color changes. Also, to help the laser identify the hair follicles refrain from waxing and tweezing for six weeks prior to your session. Shave during that period. Shaving also needs to be done the day before your session.

After your Laser Hair Removal session your skin may appear slightly red. If it does you can apply ice. Afterwards your hair will begin what is known as shedding. Following the first treatment you can expect to loose one-fifth of your hair in the area. Subsequent treatments will get rid of remaining hair.
